AEDA
Used to be known as EverReverb back in the day. I seldom get around to producing music these days, but I like to hear what the talented people here are up to!

Looking back a decade...

Posted by AEDA - 1 day ago

Ten years ago today, I registered an account under the name of "EverReverb", and immediately following that, I went and uploaded my first track here. It was... most certainly not perfect, but I got quite a few supportive comments under it, and @eatmeatleet was even kind enough to consider my music scout-worthy :) I soon followed up with another track in the same vein, but then I learned of something called "NGMT" on the forums. Turned out it was a music-making contest hosted by @SkyeWint with a theme and a challenge, and I was instantly intrigued.

It was a nice excuse to try making something completely different that I would usually do, but more importantly, it introduced me to the community of Newgrounds, something that would become my most cherished aspect of this site :)

In 2016 I got the opportunity to help making the soundrack for @Khud0's game, which still to this day is one of my fondest memories relating to music. I was able to explore a variety of styles, and learned a lot while pushing myself to higher standards. That year I also entered NGUAC ran by @TaintedLogic for the first time, and I managed to reach the finals from the underdogs!

As one can imagine I was quite excited by this, perhaps a bit too much so as my finals submission was... underwhelming, and the less talked about it the better :p

After NGUAC 2016 finished, it would take me quite a while until I would upload again. Perhaps in part due to starting highschool, I was running low on creative energy for music for almost a year. This would all change when @johnfn launched Chips Compo, a dedicated site for holding themed biweekly music contests, much in the same vein of NGMT. During 2017 in total I finished 4 tracks for Chips Compo, and while they represented a fair variety of styles, the last of them was already showing signs of the type of sound that I would end up settling for in the future.

In 2018 my musical "career" reached arguably it's highest point when I got the opportunity to collab with @TMM43 on his first track after a long hiatus. Another big occurence in 2018 was also that I managed to finally finish a game project, for which I also made the soundtrack. My NGUAC submission for this year ended up missing the mark a bit, in part due to having needed to compose it in various places accross europe during a road trip :p But to cap off 2018, I entered the autumn-themed chips compo with a track that would end up solidifying my style, and it remains as one of my personal favourites to this day.

In 2019 I was much less active, first having to deal with the final exams in the spring, and then having to move to another city and begin my university studies in the fall. Despite this, I finished a collab with @Everratic and entered NGUAC, making it to the finals once again. Unfortunately due to the beforementioned reasons I wasn't able to contest in the finals, but despite that I was most happy to see that even after my long search for a style to "call my own", I still had it ;p

My NGUAC KO track of that year would end up being my last submission for a long while. Indeed, after NGUAC 2019 and until 2024, only 1 track with my credits was posted, that being the second collab I made with @TMM43 mostly in 2019 (apologies for ghosting you back then!)

It would take me take until the January 1st of 2024 that I would find motivation to finish a new track, and end my hibernation. But I found that I had fallen out of love with my previous presence here, and it no longer held any connection for me. Thus, after some deliberation, I settled for a new name which while not identical to the one I currently have, is shaped by the same meanings behind it. And seeing that it was the Year of the Dragon, I figured that my return may as well include a bit of celebration for it :p

2025 is still continuing, but I can already say that the high point was being able to contribute to the celebration of Newgrounds' 30th anniversary by taking part in the 30th anniversary music collab arranged by @Whirlguy ^^ Having had this opportunity truly felt like coming full circle, as I still vividly remember watching the 2015 anniversary animation collab during my early days here, being amazed by the talent and history being presented :)

And with that, here's to another 10 years to come for this awesome site! I hope to see many of you around still come Newgrounds' 40th anniversary ;)
